Meredith Nichols

Deputy Medicaid Director, Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services

Meredith Nichols began her role of Assistant Administrator/Deputy Medicaid Director for the State of Hawaiʻi’s Med-Quest Division in 2017. Through this position, Ms. Nichols helps administer medical assistance programs that provide a variety of medical, dental and behavioral health benefits for eligible individuals and families in Hawaiʻi. Prior to this role, Ms. Nichols led the State’s Health Care Outreach Branch and the Hawai’i Health Connector’s Hi’iola education and outreach program.

In addition to her work with Medicaid and the State and Federal health insurance marketplace programs, Ms. Nichols has extensive experience in community building. She served as the Director of Community Engagement for ‘Ōlelo Community Media and spent 14 years directing outreach activities and designing and implementing improved community access to video production tools and training to support and amplify community voices.

Ms. Nichols earned her Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
